# Is wheel diameter or width more important when shopping for wheels?
## Both wheel diameter and width are important, with diameter affecting tire size and ride comfort and width influencing traction and stability.
Both wheel diameter and width are important, but they affect your truck in different ways.
### Why Diameter Matters
Wheel diameter impacts the overall tire size you can run and how much sidewall your tire will have. More sidewall can improve ride comfort and off road performance, while less sidewall often creates a firmer ride and a more aggressive look. Diameter plays a big role in handling, clearance, and overall stance.
### Why Width Matters
Wheel width affects the tire’s contact patch, which is the part of the tire that touches the road. A wider wheel can provide better traction and stability. However, going too wide may impact steering feel or cause rubbing if your setup does not have the proper clearance.
### Which One Should You Focus On?
The right balance depends on how you use your truck. Off road builds, daily drivers, and show trucks all benefit from different combinations of diameter and width. Thinking about your suspension setup, tire goals, and driving conditions will help you choose the best option.
